About Avatar Adi Da Samraj

Naitauba Island is the sacred hermitage ashram of Avatar Adi Da Samraj.

Avatar Adi Da Samraj (1939—2008) is an extraordinary presence and a unique intervention in human history. He lived entirely for the purpose of revealing the Truth of our human existence, and to make the perfect realization of Reality and Truth possible for all.

Essential to Avatar Adi Da’s teaching is that Reality Itself is an indivisible “prior unity”, and that living beings only seem to be discrete and separate entities. Avatar Adi Da revealed and fully demonstrated that, in truth, all beings and things are “merely apparent modifications” of Consciousness Itself—the Prior Condition in which everything seemingly appears and ultimately vanishes.

During his lifetime, Avatar Adi Da Samraj worked to reveal the ultimate nature of existence and make the process of true human growth and realization possible for human beings. He made use of many mediums to serve this purpose, producing a vast body of spiritual, philosophical, and literary writings, artistic images, and gifts of practical wisdom and Spiritual Blessing. “Avatar” is originally a Sanskrit word meaning “One who has crossed down”. Such an attribution indicates not merely an individual who has attained some degree of enlightenment by Spiritual effort, but a direct appearance, in physical form, of the Transcendental Reality.

Known in Fiji as Turaga Dau Loloma (Giver of Divine Love and Compassion to all beings), Avatar Adi Da Samraj moved to Naitauba in 1983 with the intention to find a set-apart place from which to engage his work of Spiritual Blessing, and made the island his principal home for more than twenty-five years. He was a great and respected friend to the people of Fiji and to the entire world. Avatar Adi Da passed from the physical body on Naitauba Island in 2008.

Avatar Adi Da spiritually empowered the island of Naitauba as the seat of his eternal Blessing and as the home of the Ruchira Sannyasin Order, the senior renunciate order of devotees in Adidam. His devotees will—always and in perpetuity—care for Naitauba and preserve it as the source of his Blessing for the sake of the world and all beings.

Avatar Adi Da calls all of humankind—regardless of religion, nationality, political affiliation, or any other identity—to actively presume the Truth of our inherent unity at all times, and thus to positively influence the practical, moral, and spiritual affairs of the world.

The Reality-Way of Adidam

Avatar Adi Da Samraj taught for thirty-five years and founded a new esoteric spiritual tradition, the Reality-Way of Adidam. He directly communicated a revelation of the true nature of Reality as “prior unity”, a universal, indivisible conscious force. Avatar Adi Da’s devotees recognize Avatar Adi Da to be a direct appearance of that Reality-Condition, or Conscious Light. The Reality-Way of Adidam offers devotees the opportunity to participate in a unique esoteric school of spiritual practice, in direct relationship with Avatar Adi Da, both during and after his physical lifetime.

A new kind of human consciousness is required—based on the working-presumption of prior unity, and on an understanding of the indivisibly single world in which everyone is living. This involves not only the notion that there is such a single world, but it requires grasping the necessity for cooperation, and the necessity to function on the basis of an understanding that the Earth is a single system, and humankind (likewise) is a single whole.

Avatar Adi Da Samraj devoted his life to the realization and communication of the indivisible Reality and prior unity of existence. The Adi Da Foundation is dedicated to making Avatar Adi Da’s Reality-communication and Spiritual Blessing known and available to all. Specifically, the Adi Da Foundation offers access (through publications, exhibitions, theatrical enactments, and other means) to Avatar Adi Da’s extensive body of spiritual, philosophical, and literary writings, and to his visual art that offers a unique visual communication of his realization of Reality and Truth. The Adi Da Foundation conveys and promotes Avatar Adi Da’s prophetic insistence that living in the working-presumption of prior unity is the necessary and only basis for a peaceful and sustainable future on Earth.

Message for World Peace

Throughout his life Avatar Adi Da Samraj called for cooperation, tolerance, and peace among all people for the sake of our fragile planet and the many creatures living on it. He did this not as a political figure, but in his role as “World-Friend”, out of his compassionate blessing-response to humanity and to all living beings. In that spirit, Avatar Adi Da always maintained steadfast attention to the state of the world, and frequently concentrated in intensive vigils during times of global crisis. He established his primary hermitage in Fiji, on the meridian of the international dateline, as a sign that his wisdom addresses both East and West, going beyond ego-made boundaries to embrace all of humanity as “literally one family”.
